Welland History Group

black and white photo of the post office from 1909.

“Welland History Group (WHG) actively researches the history of Welland, Upper Welland and Little Malvern, finding out the stories behind houses, farms and families, schools, pubs and shops, not forgetting the landscape itself – how our village and its surrounding area fitted into the wider history of Malvern Chase and how it has since evolved.

We work from original documents in the archives at The Hive and elsewhere and consult online resources such as genealogy websites. We devour books and newspaper articles and seek out old postcards. Just as important is local knowledge from residents who have spent much of their lives in this area or who have longstanding family connections here, sometimes going back many generations.

WHG meet several times a year at Welland Village Hall when one or more of our researchers put together a themed presentation, or we might have a guest speaker. There is always time allowed at the end of each meeting for members to mingle over tea and biscuits to discuss the presentation, view exhibits or
just have a get-together and a catch-up. Anyone is welcome to attend.”

Tiny Talk Baby Signing

Wednesdays at 11:15 at the Parish Hall

Contact: sammy@tinytalk.co.uk or call 07731649518

TinyTalk Baby signing is an award-winning class that teaches a fun and simple way to help babies communicate before they can talk. By using easy hand signs alongside words, parents and carers can support their baby’s understanding and give them a way to express their needs, thoughts and feelings.

Research shows that signing can reduce frustration, encourage early communication, and strengthen the bond between parent and child. The classes are suitable for families with babies aged 0-2 years, but signing will likely benefit your family way beyond these early years! The classes consist of half an hour of singing, signing and fun activities, followed by half an hour where I serve you a drink and a snack, and you get to chat with other families while baby plays.

If your baby is 3 months or younger at time of booking, you get your first 6-week block for half price – just £25.50, so come and join the fun!

Welland Biodiversity and Environment Volunteers (BEVs)

Welland BEVs are a newly set-up group that aims to bring together local people who have an interest in caring for the environment. The group plans to share information about local events and volunteering opportunities in Welland and the surrounding villages that relate to biodiversity/environmental enhancement. This may involve opportunities such as hedge or bulb planting, and information about things you can do at home.
