Since our last update, we are delighted to report further progress with St James Church’s Future Proof Project, supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The major external building works are now complete, with the scaffolding finally removed in July. The new guttering, repointing and roof repairs have greatly improved the condition of the building and will help protect the church from the weather for many years to come.
Our new infrared heating system is also now complete. Following the installation of two additional heaters, the final heater was commissioned on 26 August. Together with our new three-phase electricity supply, the system will provide more responsive and energy-efficient heating for worship and the many community activities held at St James.
Also on 26 August, the Cumbria Clock Company returned to install the clock’s new automatic regulator, completing another important stage of the restoration. Unfortunately, the chiming mechanism has since developed a fault, and we are awaiting a further visit to rectify this so that’s why you can’t hear the chimes!
The final major element of the Future Proof Project will be the renovation of the church organ in 2027, alongside our new heritage audio guide.
Once again, our sincere thanks go to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for its major support and to Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council for its £3,200 grant towards the clock works. We are very grateful for the support that is helping us safeguard St James for future generations.
