Welland against Food Waste

A popular initiative has begun in Welland, sharing surplus M&S food that would otherwise be destined for landfill.

Local volunteer Martin Lawrence, who runs the popular weekly ‘zest 4 life’ lunches, has helped us to arrange a ‘Welland against Food Waste’ initiative.

Every Saturday evening volunteers collect food from Marks and Spencer that would otherwise go to landfill. It’s generally fresh food such as milk, bread, pastries, chilled ready meals and salads that’s still within its “Use By” date.

Every Sunday morning at 10am we throw open the doors of the parish hall in Welland and invite anyone to come and help themselves! There are no eligibility requirements and it is available to anybody who wishes to attend.

We are also looking for willing helpers to give up an hour or so on a Sunday or volunteer to occasionally collect supplies on a Saturday from Malvern. For more info please contact Barbara Stephens, Welland’s Community Development Coordinator at barbarastephens.cdc@gmail.com
