Welland Community Cinema – NTL Dr Strangelove

All are welcome to join Welland Community Cinema for this screening of National Theatre Live's Dr Strangelove

Scheduled: 4 April 2025 - 19:00 to 22:00

The National Theatre Live production of Dr. Strangelove is a stage adaptation of Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 satirical film. The narrative centers on U.S. General Jack D. Ripper, who unilaterally initiates a nuclear strike against the Soviet Union, believing in a communist conspiracy to contaminate America’s “precious bodily fluids.” As the bombers approach their targets, President Merkin Muffley, his advisors, and the eccentric ex-Nazi scientist Dr. Strangelove scramble in the War Room to avert global catastrophe. The production features Steve Coogan portraying multiple roles, including Mandrake, President Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove, echoing Peter Sellers’ iconic performances in the original film. Co-adapted by Armando Iannucci and Sean Foley, who also directs, the play retains the film’s dark humor while introducing contemporary nuances. The adaptation has been praised for its impressive staging and Coogan’s dynamic portrayal of the characters.
