Welland History Group

black and white photo of the post office from 1909.

“Welland History Group (WHG) actively researches the history of Welland, Upper Welland and Little Malvern, finding out the stories behind houses, farms and families, schools, pubs and shops, not forgetting the landscape itself – how our village and its surrounding area fitted into the wider history of Malvern Chase and how it has since evolved.

We work from original documents in the archives at The Hive and elsewhere and consult online resources such as genealogy websites. We devour books and newspaper articles and seek out old postcards. Just as important is local knowledge from residents who have spent much of their lives in this area or who have longstanding family connections here, sometimes going back many generations.

WHG meet several times a year at Welland Village Hall when one or more of our researchers put together a themed presentation, or we might have a guest speaker. There is always time allowed at the end of each meeting for members to mingle over tea and biscuits to discuss the presentation, view exhibits or
just have a get-together and a catch-up. Anyone is welcome to attend.”
