Volunteering

Little Malvern and Welland are thriving communities, and this is largely thanks to the volunteers who organise events, run groups, and maintain the spaces that make our villages so special. We are always looking for more people to get involved. See below for some of the ways that you could help out.

Volunteering opportunities

Events Committee

Our events committee organise and run Welland’s annual Summer Fete, and Winter Wassail. This involves semi-regular meetings in the lead up to each event, liaising with stallholders and suppliers, and volunteering on the day to help it run smoothly. We are always looking for more people to help!

Event Volunteers

If you don’t fancy being on the organisation committee but would be happy to help on the day of an event, this is also really helpful. The summer fete in particular requires a number of volunteers to run stalls, sell teas and coffees, help on the barbeque and man the bouncy castle.

Purser’s Orchard Working Group

Purser’s Orchard Workers (POW) meet regularly to maintain our gorgeous community orchard. This involves mowing paths, maintaining the green spaces, picking fruit, and occasionally larger projects such as building picnic benches and digging the pond. When the demands of the orchard are quiet, the group also volunteer as ‘Welland Weeders’ – helping maintain people’s gardens in exchange for funds to support the orchard.

Community Litter Pick

A group of 10 residents from Welland, standing in high visibility jackets with litter-picking grabbing sticks and binbags.

Our community litter pick runs once a month on a Saturday morning throughout the spring-autumn. High-vis jackets and grabbing sticks are provided, and tea, coffee and bacon baps are available to reward intrepid litter-pickers after around 90 mins of work. Between (May-Oct?) 24 we collected (?number) of bags of rubbish from around Welland, helping to make our village a tidier and more beautiful place to live.

If you’d like to be added to the mailing list to get alerted about the next litter pick:

Welland Biodiversity and Environment Volunteers (BEVs)

Welland BEVs are a newly set-up group that aims to bring together local people who have an interest in caring for the environment. The group plans to share information about local events and volunteering opportunities in Welland and the surrounding villages that relate to biodiversity/environmental enhancement. This may involve opportunities such as hedge or bulb planting, and information about things you can do at home.

If you’d like to be added to the mailing list for events and information:

Library Volunteers

Did you know that Welland has a library? A branch of the Worcestershire Libraries, Welland Library is hosted in the small hall of the Parish Hall and is run by volunteers. Find more information about the library here.

Parish Newsletter

We would value help with both the submission of any relevant content for the parish newsletter, and also for its distribution. The newsletter is published roughly four times a year and is hand-delivered to every home in Welland by volunteers.

Create a new group or society

If you’d like to run a new group or society – perhaps a book group, a choir, a craft group – then we’re sure that there would be people in the villages who would love it. If you have an idea that you’d like to discuss or if you’d like help promoting your new group on the Parish Council website, whatsapp and facebook groups then please get in touch.
