New Community Speedwatch Volunteers on Patrol

Have you seen our Speedwatch Volunteers? New recruits have joined the team in a bid to make Welland's roads safer.

Published: 29 November 2025

Welland’s newest recruits to the village’s Speedwatch initiative were out on their first monitoring patrol recently. Gabi Drew and Paul Carpenter both live in the village and were keen to support this initiative after a recent “shout out” for more volunteers.

Parish councillor Madeleine Sumner said: “ It’s great to have new people coming forward as it means we can carry out our Speedwatch monitoring on a more regular basis. Speeding has been a real issue for Welland for a long time and continues to be so. Hopefully, drivers will be more conscious of the 30mph speed limit and be more considerate to those living here.”

Anyone caught exceeding 35mph will receive a letter from the police and if they are caught again, another letter will follow and a third offence will result in a visit from the police.

Anyone interested in becoming a Speedwatch volunteer can contact parish clerk David Sharpe by emailing him at clerk@littlemalvernandwelland-pc.gov.uk.
